700,000 year old man... in the cave of Petraloni
Wander in awe among the fine artefacts that nature has been crafting for centuries: stalactites that glow in the dark, dazzling 'dwarf stalagmites'. One of the most beautiful caves in Europe and, of course, one of the most impressive sights in the area, tells a very old story: here, "hidden" in stalagmite material, the skull of the 700,000-year-old archaic man was found. It belonged to a "super-old man" of the time, i.e. a man aged 30-35.

The ancient Olynthos

Urban planning lessons: at the archaeological site, you will see how the famous Hippodamian urban planning system was organized, which is a reference today for the science of urban planning. Excavated houses, boulevards, common areas, all in one area with a panoramic view.

Drop anchor in Porto Koufo

What is hidden behind the steep rocks, in the south of Sithonia? A secret port, through a narrow opening of 300 meters. It is the ancient "Toronean port", the largest and safest port in Northern Greece, mentioned by Thucydides. It was called the Deaf Harbor because if you stand inside the bay you can't hear the sea at all.

In the homeland of Aristotle

You are in Macedonia, the birthplace of one of the greatest Greek philosophers. Here you will walk on the ground that the great philosopher walked. Near the village of Olympiada, visit Ancient Stageira, birthplace of Aristotle. In the village of Stageira, you will find Aristotle's Grove: compass, pendulum, prism. The instruments mentioned in Aristotle's "Physics" are all here.

Arnea and Aphytos

Two different villages, two "jewel" villages. Each with its own tradition. Cobblestones, stone, traditional Macedonian architecture, restoration projects, museums. The picturesqueness takes you back to village life years ago.

The Potidea canal

Behind the canal, the isthmus of the Kassandra peninsula. Behind the isthmus, a long history: the project was implemented by the Macedonian king Cassander, to facilitate navigation and protect the city.

The fir trees of Taxiarchis

Mountainous Halkidiki. The joy of Christmas is "cultivated" here. In the village of Taxiarchis in central Halkidiki, all families are engaged in the cultivation of fir trees on the beautiful mountain of Holomont.

Halkidiki and gastronomy

Wherever you are on the peninsula with three "legs" you will enjoy fantastic food. What you will in any case learn by exploring is that many of the excellent local products of Halkidiki are produced in its lesser-known central part, dominated by Mount Holomontas and endless, fertile valleys.
While on vacation in Halkidiki you will come across olive groves, vineyards, orchards and apiaries. To the west, the fish ladder at Nea Moudania is one of the most active in Greece... and to the east, the mussels of Olympiada (next to Strymonikos gulf) are large and incredibly tasty. Settlements such as Ormylia, Olynthos and Metaggitsi are known for olive production, while Portaria is famous for apricots and Vrastama for tsipouro. Meanwhile, Arnaia is known as much for its Macedonian architecture as for its honey (include jams, wine and tsipouro...), and the village of Nikiti, just above the Sithonia peninsula, another excellent honey production area in Halkidiki.
Quinces, tomatoes, peaches, pears, almonds, pistachios... the list of Halkidiki's local products seems endless... We suggest you also visit one of the local women's cooperatives that prepare handmade jams, pasta and spoon sweets.
In Halkidiki you will experience many different culinary experiences. The goats and sheep that you will see freely in the countryside will foreshadow you for the excellent meats and cheeses (feta, mizithra, graviera, etc.) that you will try while you are on vacation in Halkidiki. And Mount Holomonta (a large part of which is protected by Natura 2000) hides an unexpected culinary treasure near Taxiarchis: here you will find truffles and wild mushrooms (porcini, ceps, morels, chanterelles, etc.), which thrive in the alpine microclimate . If you still want to talk about the wines of Halkidiki, find out that there are vineyards that you can visit from Agios Pavlos on the west coast to the peninsula of Mount Athos.
As you may have already understood, Halkidiki is a great culinary experience in itself. So come with us, to get to know better its local products, but also the locals who... will make you love the gastronomy of Halkidiki!
